SENSITIVE CONTENTThis activity will include examples of hate speech for educational purposes. Please engage with respect, and if you feel uncomfortable, you can pause or exit at any time.
Sometimes we normalize hate speech or give it less importance than it really has. Before the activity, you can reflect with your participants about this topic.
Challenge your participants to see if they can identify hate speech in some situations by sharing this activity with them.
First, they should read each situation carefully and answer the questions. The questions will guide them to discover whether that situation contains hate speech or not.
They can also check the chart of decisions on hate speech to understand the path they are following to make a decision.

Tips for the facilitator
As the topic of hate speech in general may elevate arousal and spur disagreement, it is important to set a scene of seriousness and empathy. After the activity, ask participants to apply some examples to the chart of their own imagination or experience.
